#3 - Visualizing Mindful Reading Infographic

I am no stranger to the power that an infographic can provide. A simple and quick image to reference in a classroom can aid in the understanding of various concepts. The concept that I choose to represent includes steps to practice mindful reading. The reason I choose to highlight the concept of mindful reading is due to the combined benefits of engagement and comprehension that comes with it. Such as making notes, visualization, and asking questions.

In the process of putting together this visual aid, I had to consider what was most important to include. The goal of this resource is to have information on mindful reading that is easy to access in just one glance. Therefore, in this process of visualization, I gathered the skills that best highlighted ways to read mindfully, and bolded them for quick reference. Below the bolded skill, I then included a brief explanation of that skill in case a student may wonder what it entails. Next to that skill, I included a small graphic, such as the pencil making notes in a notebook to reference the "Take Notes" step. That way, students get a visual along with the detailed skill to deepen their understanding of what it entails.

This visual aid serves as a reminder of skills that can be used daily throughout the classroom, as well as beyond. Considering that I will be teaching ELA, I want to provide resources that gives students quick access to concepts I may not teach everyday. In my classroom, we would likely be incorporating weekly reading, therefore the ability to know how to do so mindfully can encourage engagement, participation, and comprehension. With that, I see myself displaying this infographic on my wall, on a worksheet, in a presentation, and so on.
