#2 - My Writing Coach Profile

Hello Beautiful People,

My name is Melanie! To the right is a collage of some art, literature, film, and music that I enjoy. Along with a few photos of myself. :)

For as long as I could remember, I've been drawn to reading and writing, in all modes! First, I was drawn to the art of filmmaking and film in general. By filmmaking, I mean, writing my own little scripts and recording scenes on my not-so-great quality kids camera. From there, I began to create comic strips for my friends, and eventually diving into more academic writing like how to format the essay. With that, I explored the art of crafting essays, poetry, and so on.

As I made my way through Elementary and Middle school, and began to elevate my skills in literature, I became the designated editor friend. Helping my friends and family express how they felt, how to illustrate an idea, or simply just proofread their work. Through this, I was able to realize that there is power in words, and helping others to find those words.

The beauty of literature is that it encompasses more than the classic five paragraph essay. The possibilities of expressing yourself through literature are truly endless. As I mentioned, my journey began through the exploration of filmmaking, but quickly expanded to writing essays, analyzing other works of literature, writing poetry, and so much more. Expressing yourself can be difficult, but with literature, you can find a way to so in a way that is unique and meaningful to you!

  1. Hi Melanie!
I also became the designated editor friend. Also, I want to point out that I love the vibe of your collage! It is very aesthetically pleasing. I think your point about writing being more than the five paragraph essay is so important! Despite my liking in structure and organization in writing, that is not all that it is about! It is only a small part of what writing truly is and I think you captured it perfectly.

  2. Hey Melaine,
Same as you too, I was also the editor friend. I found my love for reading and writing from movies too. I would watch all these movies that were based on a book, and then read the book and compare the two. From that point forward, I knew I wanted to do something related to reading and writing. I enjoyed reading about where your inspiration came from and how you have applied writing to other aspects of your life. 100 percent agree with your point on the power of words.

  3. Hi Melanie!
I also was always making videos as a child. I was singing Hamilton on my school issued Ipad to submit for class all of the time. Sometimes I wish I had kept those videos so that I can look back at them and laugh really hard!

  4. I love your focus on voice and self expression in this post. English and ELA definitely do go beyond the 5 paragraph essay!
