Dec 4th: What Now...?
As an English Education major, half of my job as a student is to write "formal" essays that don't often give me much room to step outside of the box. However, throughout this course I have developed, explored, and experimented with my creative nonfiction writing skills. Skills that I have placed on the backburner for many years now. I am certainly not a stranger to writing nonfiction on my own time, but it isn't often that I put a spin on it. Like, writing in a different point of view or going out and finding a story or person to write about. So, I hope that I continue on with my creative writing journey and continue to push boundaries. Boundaries in that way that I write, think, observe, reflect, explore and so much more.
Also, I hope to carry these skills and pass them to others. Mainly to my future students. I feel that the ability to write nonfiction can positively translate into other areas of people's lives, as it has for myself. I have possibly considered incorporating Zines as a project for my future classroom, something that allows students to develop their writing skills in a way that allows their creativity to flow into something physical and unique to them. Moreover, now that I have better developed my creative writing skills, and will continue to do so, I feel that I will be better equipped to teach it and pass on.
