Oct 5, 2023: Three Tiny Corners of One Big World
The Draft
A colita, a small Antman figurine, and one half of a pistachio shell lay scattered across a shared dorm room floor. Three small corners of one big world. Not the world made up of 8,064,361,298 people, a McDonalds on every corner, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, or even Chris Hemsworth. No, these three seemingly useless items belong to the world of a girl who uses the word colita instead of hair tie. Colita is a complicated word. If you say it in Mexico, it could be slang for a place where the sun doesn't shine. If you go to El Salvador it could translate to tail or ponytail depending on the context. But in this world, on this floor, to this girl, it means hair tie. This stretched out black colita lays pathetically on the floor covered in black curly hair that is sometimes brown in the right light. Though the elastic part of the colita is incredibly warn out, it still stays together. Just thick enough to support the hair of one-hundred woman. For now though, it is unfortunately forgotten. It will remain forgotten until a random Tuesday when the girl will frantically search the floor in desperation for something to quickly tie her hair up with.
Just a few inches away from the colita lies a life size Antman figurine. Life size in reference to the movie Antman when Antman himself shrinks down to a size small enough to ride an Ant. This particular Antman was not packaged alone, however. No, in fact he was packaged with three different variations of himself. One regular size and one enormous version of himself from the second Antman movie. Unfortunately, the regular sized version was decapitated when the girl who once owned it accidently dropped it. The enormous version had been unfortunately misplaced. Therefore leaving this small but mighty version of Antman all to himself. He lies on an unvacuumed floor with his silver and red eye mask fixated on the ceiling. It's head is slightly bigger than its body. Just big enough to make one question what it would be thinking about if it could think. Normally, his silver exterior would shimmer in the sun making it appear much more realistic. However enough dust had perfectly rested on top therefore preventing his time to shine.
Shining right next to the Antman figurine would be the dirty half of a pistachio shell that has been laying on the floor for longer than it should have. Despite being literal garbage covered in dried up spit and left over seasonings, this half of a pistachio is one of the most valuable items in this corner of the world. Not because the girl who ate it thought it tasted really good or particularly liked pistachios. It was because this shell came from a bag belonging to a close friend. A friend who recently joined in on this corner of the world. Leaving behind an immeasurable amount of love, memories, and time. Along with one dried up pistachio shell amongst a floor of colitas and a lonely Antman figurine.
